The rest after are 6/10 at most with only 1-2 compelling songs per album. 80% or more of all songs on each of Alligator -> High Violet were compelling songs. The National have become boring. The National fucking rocks and they’ve been making great work for going on two decades. Nobody will remember any of these critics or these mediocre clout chasers when they’re gone. The album sounds like it was written by an AI that learned to replicate the general contours of The National’s sound without ever doing anything surprising or interesting.
